GAINESVILLE, Fla.—Byron French, a professor of agricultural and biological engineering with the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, received the John Deere Award from the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) at the organization’s conference June 20 in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
The NACTA John Deere Award, which includes $500 for the recipient and another $500 for the institution, recognizes outstanding teachers and programs in agricultural business, technology and management in post-secondary schools and colleges. (more…)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Five faculty members in the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences received the Secretary’s Honor Awards from the U.S. Department of Agriculture during recent ceremonies in Washington, D.C.
The USDA’s highest recognition for outstanding contributions to agriculture and the consumer were presented to Dan Canfield, Chuck Cichra, Carol Lehtola, Jan Shearer and Nayda Torres by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Ann Veneman in ceremonies at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center. (more…)

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.—In the search for better, faster and cheaper ways to kill deadly anthrax spores, University of Florida researchers say their findings have been confirmed by scientists in Illinois.
Recent tests by the Illinois Institute of Technology Research Institute, a not-for-profit organization in Chicago, show that a common pest control fumigant called methyl bromide is effective at eradicating anthrax spores. (more…)
