High Resolution Photo and Cutline: Headlice Story
GAINESVILLE---University of Florida researchers say the back-to-school season also is head lice season, and they urge parents to inspect their children weekly. Graduate researcher Clay Scherer, shown with a pupil at a Gainesville school, Thursday 9/2, conducts outreach programs to help elementary school nurses spot and treat head lice. Elementary children are more prone to head lice infestations because of their playful behavior, which often results in the head-to-head contact the lice need to spread, says Scherer, who works out of UF's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. Researchers say head lice may be developing resistance to some treatments, making prevention of head lice the best course of action. (UF/IFAS Photo:Thomas Wright)
