High Resolution Photo and Cutline: Mosquito Preferences
University of Florida entomologist Jerry Butler makes observations, in his Gainesville lab Friday 8/20, as mosquitoes choose between the arms of two hosts. In a study to determine whether the blood-sucking insects choose their victims or feed indiscriminately, Butler and a research assistant found that mosquitoes do select victims rather than feed at random. In any group of 10, one person will be fed on more than others, says Butler, a researcher at UF's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. (AP Photo: Thomas Wright, University of Florida/IFAS)
