University of Florida horticulturalists Bob Black and Laurie Trenholm water
some St. Augustine grass in a greenhouse, Thursday 3/22, on the Gainesville campus. With
drought indexes already hitting levels not normally seen until June or July,
Black and Trenolm offer the unexpected advice that homeowners water their
lawns and plants only when wilting leaves indicate that they need it. Black,
an urban landscape specialist with UF's Institute of Food and Agricultural
Sciences, and Trenholm, a turfgrass specialist, say limiting water now will
get plants used to making do with less water and help them survive the
ongoing drought conditions. (AP photo by Eric Zamora, University of Florida/IFAS)
