Detch:    I love drinking red wine and as an athlete I'm concerned about consuming alcohol of any kind so if there's good health benefits to it, I think it's a fantastic program. (:10)

UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA RESEARCHERS CONDUCTED TRIALS ON HOW RED WINE EFFECTS THE IMMUNE SYSTEM. MICE WERE GIVEN AN EQUIVALENT OF 2-3 GLASSES OF RED WINE A DAY FOR 8 WEEKS. EXPERTS WERE TRYING TO DETERMINE IF RED WINE SUPPRESSES THE IMMUNE SYSTEM BY LOWERING THE LEVEL OF WHITE BLOOD CELLS.

Percival:  We found that a small, moderate amount of alcohol, ethanol, suppressed immune functions. The same amount of alcohol that was consumed in the form of red wine had no detrimental affect. (:14)

UF NUTRITIONISTS BELIEVE THE BENEFICIAL INGREDIENT IN RED WINE MIGHT BE THE RED PIGMENT THAT ACTS AS AN ANTI-OXIDANT. THEY KNOW THE PIGMENT HELPS PREVENT CANCER AND HEART DISEASE. BUT THEY ÔRE NOT SURE IF IT ALSO PROTECTS IMMUNE FUNCTIONS. I'M LINDA KUBITZ REPORTING.
